چکیده

To study the extent of removal of Cu(II) ions from the electroplating industrial effluent, metal resistant fungal strain of Penicillium janthinellum was selected for the present study. Response surface methodology was used to optimize the sorption process variables i.e. temperature (20-40 oC), biomass concentration (0.5-2.5 mg/l), pH (2.0-6.0) and initial concentration of metal ions (20-100 mg/l). The maximum removal 59.48% of Cu (II) ions was observed at temperature 33.7 °C, biomass concentration 1.65 g/L, pH 5.88, and metal ions concentration 60.12 mg/L. Experimental results shows that sorption of Cu (II) ions by P. janthinellum indicates good biosorbent for removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution. However, the Cu(II) ions removal efficiency by P. janthinellum in electroplating industrial effluent was found to be 35c/o.

Comparative Assessment of Heavy Metal Removal by Immobilized and Dead Bacterial Cells: A Biosorption Approach

Microorganisms play a vital role in heavy metal contaminated soil and wastewater by the mechanisms of biosorption. In this study, heavy metal resistant bacteria were isolated from the effluent samples of an electroplating industry and the biosorption of copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb). These isolates were characterized to evaluate their applicability for heavy metal removal from industr...

Synthesis of Ethylenediamine-modified Ordered Mesoporous Carbon as a New Nanoporous Adsorbent for Removal of Cu(II) and Pb(II) Ions from Aqueous Media

The mesoporous carbon (CMK-3) functionalized with ethylenediamine (EDA) has been synthesized (CMK-3-EDA) and applied as a new mesoporous adsorbent for removal of Cu(II) and Pb(II) cations from aqueous solutions. Nitrogen adsorption–desorption measurements (BET) show that surface area, pore size and pore volume of CMK-3 were significantly changed after amine modification. The BET surface area an...

Sorption of Cu(II), Zn(II) and Ni(II) from aqueous solution using activated carbon prepared from olive stone waste

The performance of olive stone activated carbon (OSAC) for sorption of Cu2+, Zn2+ and Ni2+ ions was investigated via batch technique. OSAC materials were prepared under different physially activation conditions. Olive stone waste was physically activated with N2 gas and steam gas at 900oC at 3.5h hold time (OSAC-3) was choice as the best one for Cu2+, Zn2+ and Ni2+ removal. Characterization for...
